MYTHEN Project
Contact: bernd.schmitt@psi.ch
The MYTHEN detector system (microstrip system for time resolved experiments) allows to make time resolved
powder diffraction measurments, which would be almost impossible to conduct without this detector. It is a microstrip detector system
with about 15'000 channels covering 60º in 2theta. All channels work independently in parallel. Each channel
has a charge sensitive amplifier, a comparator and a counter. Compared to a standard analyzer detector, the
measurement time is reduced from several hours to seconds or less.
The intrinsic resolution is 0.004º, which is however limited by the sample diameter to, e.g. 0.011º for a 100 µm
capillary. The readout time for the entire detector is 250 µs. At a later stage, frame rates up to 10 kHz are foreseen.
